Andrew founded 5Lion as a vehicle to make early stage investments in emerging technology companies. A lifelong sports fan, Mr. Welters seized an opportunity in 2013 to enhance the fan experience at live sporting and entertainment events. He assembled a team to create a mobile platform that brings food, beverage, merchandise, and experiences directly to patrons. BTLR – 5Lion’s first portfolio company – was born.
Mr. Welters’ operator-first approach gives him a unique perspective when it comes supporting and growing each portfolio company. His focus lies in providing each of 5Lion’s portfolio companies with the financial and non-financial tools to grow; actively fundraising, advising, and providing strategic advice to each company.
A native Washingtonian, Mr. Welters serves on the board of The Washington Jesuit Academy as the head of the development committee. He is also on Advisory councils of The Maret School and the AnBryce Foundation. Mr. Welters received a BA in History from the University of Notre Dame.
Ron Russo spent 18 years working in the investment management industry prior to joining 5Lion. During that time, Mr. Russo was employed by a number of hedge funds, most recently as a Portfolio Manager and Partner at a New York based, real estate-focused hedge fund.
Mr. Russo focused most intensely on managing three portfolios of publicly traded real estate securities, but was also an integral part of the marketing, fundraising and operational aspects of the fund.
Mr. Russo grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated Colby College with a B.A. in Economics, Concentration in Financial Markets in 1999. He currently spends his free time running after his two sons with his wife, Gina.
